Today is the birthday of the Text Message (December 3rd). It is the day that the first SMS message was sent by Neil Papworth – a 22-year-old test engineer for Sema Group – to Richard Jarvis of Vodafone in 1992. Papworth sent a “Merry Christmas” message from his computer to Jarvis’s Orbitel 901 handset.
